Alan R. Dunnigan, 73, of Palm City, FL, passed away on November 12, 2016 at the Martin Hospital South, Stuart, FL.
Born in Fall River, MA, Alan was the son of the late Andrew and Alice (Heywood) Dunnigan. He had been a resident of Palm City for 16 years coming from the New England area.
He received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 1965.
Before retiring, he had been a project manager for One Beacon Insurance, Foxboro, MA. He also held managerial positions at the former Digital Equipment Corp and Compaq Computer Corp.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carolyn (McGill) Dunnigan; his daughter Cathy Dunnigan and husband John Barnard of Nashua, NH; his son, Peter Dunnigan and wife Karen of Alstead, NH; his three granddaughters, Emily Morneau, Olivia Dunnigan and Nora Dunnigan.
Alan's love of life was fulfilled by his pride in his family. He was an avid sailor and spent many years sailing Buzzards Bay, the Coast of Maine and beyond. Alan also competed in three Marion to Bermuda yacht races aboard his beloved sailing vessel "Allegiance". After retirement, Alan and his wife sailed their boat to and from New England and Florida every spring and fall. Alan was also an avid wood-worker and self taught tradesman who passionately re-built many of the homes he and Carolyn shared.
Alan was a special man and was dearly loved by family and friends.
