Albert Newell Remler, long-time Savannah attorney, patriarch of his large and loving family, passed away from natural causes on May 19, 2020, surrounded by family and under the care of hospice.
Mr. Remler was born January 6, 1932, in Savannah and lived and worked there for most of his 88 years of life. He married the love of his life, Nikki Summerford in 1950 and together they had twelve children-Rosalind, Nikki, Albert, Raymond, Sharon, Loretta, Marilyn, Holly, Michael, Patrick, Angela and Pamela. This includes three sets of twins. Mr. Remler is preceded in death by his wife, Nikki, and 4 children, Patrick, Raymond, Michael and Loretta. He is survived by his brother, Bruce Remler of Savannah. He was a proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Mr. Remler is a graduate of Benedictine Military School, Savannah, GA; Fordham University, NYC and University of Georgia Law School where he was awarded the distinguished Sylvanus Morris Order of Jurisprudence and later admitted as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and after an honorable discharge, enlisted into the 165 Fighter Group of the Georgia Air National Guard where he rose to the rank of the Lieutenant Colonel upon his retirement.
He believed firmly in three principles - God, Family and Country.
There will be a celebration of Al's life in Savannah at a later date.
