Obituary of Alice Maxwell

Alice Stubing Maxwell of 5253 SE Sea Island Way, Stuart, FL (and the world at large) passed away

Wednesday night September 22, 2015. Alice has just celebrated her 90th birthday with many family and

friends November 2, 2014. She lived a fascinating and adventurous life with her husband Robert

William Maxwell, known as Max, who she had been married to since 1945 and predeceased her in

1989.

Alice is survived by her three children - Laura M Wheeler, David L Maxwell and Robert S Maxwell ...

her six grandchildren - Trayne Wheeler, Skye Hughes, Derryk Wheeler, Rebecca Thornock, Tayler

Stogsdill and Kimberly Maxwell and her 7 great-grandchildren, Tiernan Wheeler, Rhys Wheeler,

Hannah Wheeler, Neevan Hughes, Tabitha Hughes, Moira Hughes and Charlotte Stogsdill. She is also

survived by her sister, Robert Riordan of New York, and her cousin, Doris Gough of Connecticut.

After World War II Alice and her husband, Max, traveled the world living in many war-torn countries

(from Europe to the Philippines) while Max rebuilt manufacturing facilities. During that time Alice, as

photojournalist, sent many articles and pictures back to the US to such publications as National

Geopgraphic, Pictoral Enquirer, the NY Times and the several other newspapers in Ohio and New

York. They returned back to the USA in the late 1950's, and proceeded to live in Cincinnati, Chicago,

and Red Bank, NJ. During this period of her life Alice was on the Banking Commission of Illinois ...

owned a newspaper in Monmouth County, NJ owned an antique shop in Red Bank, NJ and was

heavily involved in the Young Republicans and the NJ Republican Party.

She and Max, got the travel bug again and ended up working in living in Rio de Janairo, Brazil

Venezuela Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands. After Max died in 1989, Alice traveled the world to

visit friends and family, maintaining a residence in Stuart, FL. When she wasn't travel, she was partner

in an antique shop in Hobe Sound, FL. And she was traveling right up until the end of July this year

when her health declined rapidly, leading to her death in September.

Alice had many friends, who she considered her extended family. She will be missed by us all.
