IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ambrose L.
Fisher
March 28, 1926 – August 15, 2022
Ambrose L. Fisher
March 28, 1926 to August 15, 2022
Alma, Arthur, Edith, Alvin, Ina and Cleveland anxiously awaited their brother's birth. He was the last baby his Mom Adelin would have.
Ambrose was a well educated and well travelled young man. He was born on the Panama Canal Zone. His Dad was the first Black Police Officer on the Zone. When his Dad's assignment was completed the youngest Fisher and his parents returned to Jamaica. Ambrose was thirteen and always remembered the turbulent, rocky and wet voyage back to Jamaica. Thank goodness they arrived safely.
Ambrose's ambitions were to become an architect. He studied schematic drawings and displayed a talent for sketching, drawing and painting.
His love of sweets and baked goods made him befriend a local baker and chef. Mrs. Leahnora Gittens was that baker. He would frequent her shop and took notice of another sweetie that was there, her daughter Stephanie.
They began a romance but it was cut short when Stephanie left for America. Long story short, Ambrose made his way to America and married Stephanie on the morning of Valentine's Day 1953. They expanded their family by having Deborah and Pamela.
Ambrose worked several positions before being hired as a temporary seasonal worker for the U.S. Postal Service. He began as a clerk and retired as the General Foreman of the Main Post Office on 34 th and 7 th Ave. in NYC. He worked there for 34 years.
Ambrose and Stephanie retired in 1989 here in Port St. Lucie. He dabbled in gardening, bowling and socialized with new friends during his early retirement. He did some traveling to Spain, Portugal and took a reminiscent cruise through the Panama Canal.
Because Ambrose was known to be honest and trustworthy he was elected to the positions of Treasurer and President of the Caribbean American Cultural Group. He worked with the Group to help establish them as a source or pride, information and culture sharing in the Treasure Coast area and beyond.
After living a long and full life God called him home. He is survived by his daughters Deborah and Pamela, his grand children Monroe, Shanic and Tiffanie. His great grand children Tae Shaun, Dwayne Jr. (DJ) and Breya.
Ambrose leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who love their last uncle.
He and that cute little smile will be missed.
