Obituary

Amos J Van Sant joined his beloved wife, Mildred in heaven November 22, 2021.
Amos "Pop" was born June 9, 1934, to Amos and Caroline Van Sant in Gloucester County, New Jersey. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and served the country he loved as a mechanic working on abandoned tanks When he returned to the states he started his own company as a mechanic. Pop was a gifted man able to fix, repair or build just about anything. He was the type of person who would choose to repair something over buying a new one. He valued hard work, honesty, and the value of a man's word.
He moved to South Florida in 1962. Soon after he married the love of his life, Mildred Yeager and her two daughters, Kathy and Terri in a courthouse ceremony. The two honeymooned on Key Biscayne.
The family resided in Opa-Locka, where he worked as a mechanic for "Tasty Box" a food truck company, he also worked construction on Indian Creek Island. He helped build the house for Henry Hoover. Developing a friendship with him, he later became Mr. Hoover's right hand man, chauffeur and boat captain. In 1970 he and Mildred moved to Martin County. While living in Martin County he worked with Pratt Witney.
Amos and Mildred were generous sponsors through the years to The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch for boys. After loosing his wife to cancer, he began volunteering at Jupiter Foshay Cancer Center. He was loved by all for his quick wit, lending hand, ear to listen and overall kindness. He was an avid reader, reading several books a week. His kindle became so full, he needed a new one!
Amos is preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Caroline Van Sant, his older brother, Paul and his wife, Mildred.
Amos leaves behind his daughters Kathy McCollum of Palm City and Terri Walls of Port St. Luice. He leaves grandchildren Paul Lankow, Darrell Lankow, Larry Lankow, Casey Walls and six great-grandchildren. As well as countless friends whom he touched so dearly.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch or Foshay Cancer Center.
