Obituary

Anita L. Tuttle, 85, of Port Saint Lucie, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on October 14, 2023.

Anita is preceded in death by her loving husband, Royden Tuttle Jr., parents Edward and Louise Yoerges, and sister Alvina Yoerges. She is survived by her twin sister Alma Thompson; her four children; Glen McMahon and his wife Jane, Janet Owens and her husband Eric (Anita's favorite son-in-law), Karen Antona, Jennifer McMahon and two beautiful granddaughters Lauren( Owens) Alton and her husband
Jack, and Erin Owens; niece Kim Reiss and her husband Kenneth Stack and children Adam and Adrienne and nephew Kenneth Reiss and son B.J.

Anita was born to Edward and Louise (Johansen) Yoerges, in Bronx, NY, where she grew up with her sisters Alma and Alvina. Anita had many fond memories of her childhood including spending time on her uncle's farm in the summer, ice skating, and the many parties that her mother enjoyed hosting for family and friends.

She was a kind, caring and incredibly strong and independent woman and mother. She worked hard and raised her family essentially on her own. She provided a secure and loving home for her children even during some very trying times. Her children warmly remember how she made sure Christmas was always special - baking favorite holiday cookies, decorating a live tree trimmed with tinsel surrounded by a pile of presents.
They also remember how they enjoyed visiting the beach in the early evenings searching for shells; her love of gardening and colorful flowers; birthday parties with school and neighborhood friends; trips to the ASPCA to visit the animals (almost always bringing home a new pet); her talent for sewing (including sewing barbie doll clothes with daughter Janet and best friend Susan), fun Halloween costumes and so much more. Anita was always there for her children.

In 1986, Anita married Royden Tuttle, moving to Port Saint Lucie, Florida, where they spent 12 loving years together. Anita and Roy enjoyed taking road trips visiting many sites. Together they took pleasure combining their talents creating special toys, gifts, and decorations with Roy's woodworking and her painting, sewing and crafting.

Anita found special pleasure in sewing American Doll clothes for her two granddaughters Lauren and Erin. She also joined with a group of women making pillowcase dresses for an organization that shipped them to young girls in Africa. She was an avid reader, spending hours with a good book on her lounge chair in the backyard screen room.

Anita worked for Bealls Department store in Port St. Lucie for more than 20 years in customer service, where she had many friends including her good friend Sharon Melnick. Over the years, Anita and Sharon shared many laughs and fun times including regular outings to their favorite lunch spot Lady Ann's Restaurant and Tea Room in Stuart, Florida.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the incredibly caring team of nurses and staff of Treasure Coast Hospice. They are grateful for the kind care and support that they provided during their mother's final journey. No formal services will be held, but the family invites you to leave thoughts and messages of condolence through this online guestbook.
