Obituary of Ann Belmont

Ann Branum Belmont, 90, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2015, at Sand Hill Cove in Palm City, Florida. She was preceded in death in 2011 by her husband, Charles. The two of them spent their lives together, having been married for 65 years. Theirs was a whirlwind romance, to say the least - they met the day before Charlie was being shipped out for overseas military duty in 1945 and Ann was waiting for him upon his return in July, 1946. They were married in Wheeling, West Virginia, Ann's hometown in September, 1946.

Ann and Charlie raised their two children in Ridgewood, N.J. They also had a summer home on Cape Cod in Chatham, Mass. Tennis was a big part of their lives as the children were growing up, with both Ann and Charlie playing year round and in later years becoming avid fans. They made several trips to Wimbledon.

After Charlie's retirement, Ann & Charlie moved to Vero Beach, Fla. where boating became a large part of their lives. Ann and the family would test their creativity each holiday season while decorating their boat for the Moorings and Vero Beach Christmas boat parades, and often times they came home with an award. The family's final move came in 2001 when Ann & Charlie moved to Sand Hill Cove, a retirement community, in Palm City, Fla.

Ann was devoted to her family and was wont to tell all who would listen about her daughter Susan, a realtor in Vero Beach, her son Peter, a retired attorney who now resides in St. Petersburg, Fla. and Hood River, Oregon along with his lifelong partner, Laurie Macdonald, a wildlife conservationist. Ann was also equally proud of her grandchild, Kathleen, a creative art director, also of Vero Beach, Fla.

The family would like to thank the caregivers for Ann for their compassion and warmth and staff at Water's Edge Extended Care and Sand Hill Cove.

Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Presbyterian Church, 4881 S.E. Cove Road, Stuart, FL 34997. A memorial service is scheduled for September 19 at Sandhill Cove. Interment, beside Charlie, will be at a later date in South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Fla. Arrangements are by Forest Hills Funeral Homes, Palm City.
