Ann Isbell Mills, 87, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Middletown, VA and Richmond, VA, passed away on Monday January 15, 2018.  Ann is preceded in death by her parents Joseph David Isbell, Sr. and Susie Hollins Isbell, her loving husband of 55 years, James Thomas Mills, Jr., and her brother, Joseph David Isbell, Jr (Kathleen). Ann is survived by her sister, Ruth Isbell Henley; her son, Thomas David Mills (Roxanna) and daughter, Carol Mills Wallace (Karl); five grandchildren, Emily Mills Gibson (Travis), Bradley David Mills (Erin), Sarah Mills Smith (Jody), Karl Maxwell Wallace, and Katherine Ann Wallace; and nine great grandchildren, Georgianna Therese Gibson, Catherine Lila Gibson, Ezekiel Thomas Mills, Gideon Alexander Mills, Honor Elizabeth Smith, James David Gibson, Benjamin Crandall Mills, Asher Felton Smith, and Daphne Jane Smith.

Ann was born on April 27, 1930, in Richmond, VA. She graduated from Glen Allen High School in 1948.  Ann was secretary to the president of Harwood Brothers (Benjamin Moore Dealer) until she traveled to Japan in 1953 to marry Tom during the Korean Police Action.  Ann enjoyed photographing the people, scenery, and culture of Japan, and later shared her collection of slides with elementary children.  Ann's life was centered around her family, who were blessed to enjoy her gentle, loving soul.  She took great pride in physically building her home in Middletown with her family.  As an example of the teamwork shared between Ann and Tom during their marriage, Ann received an honorary PhT "Putting Hubby Through" degree after Tom earned his PhD in Education.  Ann was a gracious "First Lady" when Tom was the president of Waynesburg University and Cumberland University, supporting numerous educational, cultural, and sporting activities.  Ann and Tom enjoyed traveling, including camping when the children were young, and they were able to visit 47 out of 50 states. Ann was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, VA for over 40 years. Over the years Ann was a member of the Brooklyn Junior Women's Club, Hermitage Women's Club, Women's Circle at First Presbyterian Church, Homemaker's Extension Club, Old Fredericktown Garden Club, and Lord Fairfax Community College Lunch Group, and she served as a docent at historic Belle Grove Plantation in Middletown.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 26, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. West Chapel, Glen Allen, VA.  A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, January 27, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church-Short Pump, 4825 Pouncey Tract Road, Glen Allen, VA.
