Obituary of Arthur Morton

Arthur Gus Morton, 86, of Palm City, died on August 28, 2008 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart. He was born in Glendale, California in 1921, the son of Dr. Arthur G and Ruth Morton. He attended schools in Pasadena, CA and then the University of California at Davis. At the beginning of World War II, he enlisted in the Army (infantry) and served in both the North African and European Conflicts.

Following the war, he worked in Pasadena, CA as a dental technician for his father and brother. He then worked for Shell Oil in Caracas, Venezuela and after a visit to Miami, he became an employee of Aerodex Corporation, where he worked for twenty four years. During that time, he met and married Millie Cullen, a Miami School teacher. Last November they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Before retiring, he was employed by Design Engineering and then he and Millie decided to spend their remaining years in Palm City.

They also loved traveling and saw many parts of the world making friends wherever they went.

As a younger man, Gus was very active in sports car racing, golf and fishing in the Keys.

In Miami he served as an usher at Holy Rosary Church and as president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Christ the King Catholic Church. In Palm City he was a parishioner of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, a 3rd degree knight in the Knights of Columbus and a member of Evergreen Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Millie Morton and many relatives in the western states of Arizona, California, Montana and Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Arthur G. Morton, SR, mother, Ruth Foss Morton, brother, Dr. Elmer Morton and sister, Gloria Morton Stock.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM, Tuesday,September 2nd at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City. A reception at Evergreen Club will follow.
