Obituary

Arthur Schaefer, known to all as Artie, born June 21, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2020, exactly four months shy of his 80 th birthday. He had been ill but fought valiantly to the end, and he was gratefully in the company of his wife Karen, to whom he had been happily married since 1993.

He was preceded in death by his son Arthur Schaefer, Jr.  Artie leaves behind his wife Karen, and three children:  Andrew, Gina, and Kimberly; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews who he loved and often cared for.

Artie and Karen moved to Florida shortly after their wedding where they launched several successful businesses over the years.  He was an aficionado of speed, be it on the road (two wheels as well as four) or on the water.  The younger family members have lasting memories of thrilling rides on his speed boats, loudly blasting and pounding through the waters off Port St. Lucie.  Artie was long affiliated with the A.A., and sponsored and mentored many men and women through the years, even hosting meetings at their home.  He felt strongly that commitment was an extraordinarily important way to do well and give back. Likewise, his commitment to family and friends was deep and sincere.

Artie was devoted to his wife Karen over more than a quarter of a century of marriage and was always grateful for the support she provided him.  He will be missed greatly by many.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 26 th , at 11:00 am at Forest Hills Palm City Chapel. The officiating clergy will be Chaplin Marc Angelo of Treasure Coast Hospice of Stuart. Burial will follow immediately.
