Obituary

Obrie (Aubrey) DeCosta Viera Solomon was born on February 8, 1943, in Georgetown, Guyana, South America. He was the only child of Marjorie Solomon.

Aubrey attended Smith's Church School, Boxill's Private School, and then attended Cambridge Academy where he demonstrated a natural gift for math. He later taught at Mackenzie Government School in Guyana. In 1968, he migrated to the United States, where he pursued higher education at Baruch College within the City University of New York system and later graduated from York College in Queens.

On March 18, 1972, Aubrey married Lezlene Thomas. Together, they established their home in Queens, New York. Their family grew through adoption with the joyful addition of their beloved son, Robert Solomon.

Aubrey began his professional career at Bankers Trust Company, working in accounting. He was later promoted to Manager in the Factor and Finance Division, a role he held for approximately fourteen years. After leaving Bankers Trust, he co-founded CARIB Estate Corporation alongside a cousin and a close friend.

A faithful servant of God, Aubrey was a longtime member of Pilgrim Holiness Church, where he served in numerous capacities, including Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Men's President, and Camp Director.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Aubrey's life was marked by service, mentorship, and a deep belief in the potential of young people. He devoted countless hours to mentoring and tutoring young adults, encouraging them to earn their GEDs, complete their education, and pursue college. A teacher at heart, Aubrey was a quiet but powerful force of encouragement whose patience and guidance changed the course of many lives. His influence extended far beyond classrooms or resumes — he helped shape futures.

In 2001, following the passing of his mother, Aubrey suffered a stroke. He later resigned from CARIB Estate Corporation and relocated to Florida. There, he and Lezlene opened the Golden Eagle Child Development Center, continuing their shared commitment to education and youth development.

In 2025, Aubrey suffered another stroke that left him disabled. He passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026.
