Obituary of Benjamin Tuthill
Benjamin "Palmer" Tuthill Jr. was born on April 13, 1927 in Orlando, FL to Benjamin Palmer and Edelweiss Tuthill and passed away on June 20th, 2014 in Port St. Lucie, FL. He joined the US Navy after graduating high school, and after his tour of duty, during WWII, he attended Rollins College, graduating with a degree in chemistry. He also did some postgraduate work through the University of Florida at Lake Alfred. He went on to work in the lab of a citrus concentrate plant, where he became very interested in the processing of orange juice concentrate. During his lifetime he became a pioneer in that field, designing, building, and managing several of the most innovative concentrate plants in the world today.
Palmer is survived by his three children, David Tuthill and his wife Gale, Katherine Tuthill Orr, all of Fort Pierce, FL and Elizabeth Tuthill Minton and her husband John of Vero Beach, FL; his sister, Jean Tuthill Stanton of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren, David Tuthill and his wife Fallon, Adam Tuthill all of Fort Pierce, Dr. Summer Tuthill, who is currently doing her residency in New York, John L. Minton Jr. and his wife Tyler of Winter Park, FL, Mary Elizabeth Minton Arden and her husband Derek of Vero Beach, Margaret Minton King and her husband Ryan of Tampa, FL and Roger Jason Orr and his wife Breanna of Fernandina Beach, FL; eleven great-grandchildren with two on the way. He also is survived by two stepchildren, Sharon Huggins Hamill and her husband Monty and Gene Huggins all of Stuart and three step-grandchildren, Michael Parella, Crawford Hamill and Melanie Huggins. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Huggins Tuthill, and his former wife Elizabeth Bitzer Tuthill.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City with a service at 2:30 PM. Interment will be private in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City. An online tribute and registry is available at www.foresthillspalmcityflorida.com .
Palmer has had a tremendous impact on those who came in contact with him and he is loved and will be greatly missed.
