Obituary of Bert McConnell

Bert E. McConnell, 88, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died April 29, 2010 at his home at The Harbor Place.

Born in Osnabruck Township, Ontario, Canada, he lived in Stuart and Port St. Lucie, Florida for 35 years coming from Massapequa, New York, where he was a longtime resident.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving as a tank driver with the Third Army in Europe.

Before retiring, he was Chief of District, Nassau County New York Police Department. He joined the force in 1946. He was former president of the Oceana II South Condominium Association and a member of the Club Med Golf Club, Port St. Lucie.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Doris McConnell of Port St. Lucie; a son, Bert E. McConnell Jr. of Jensen Beach; a daughter, Nancy Smith of Stuart; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: Services will be private. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City.
