Obituary

Billie Gordon Boyd, 86, of Palm City, FL died peacefully at home on May 18, 2016 following a brief illness.

She was born April 11, 1930 in Jasper, Alabama to the late Thessa and Frank Gordon Sr. In high school Billie played competitive basketball and was proud to have been captain of the girls' varsity team. She received her bachelor's degree from Florence State Teachers College in Alabama, then moved to Florida where she taught in Broward and Martin County schools for 30 years. A fellow teacher introduced Billie to her nephew, Thomas C. Boyd, and they were married on January 16, 1954. Billie and Tom raised a family in Plantation before retiring to Palm City in the early 1980s and shared 56 years together before his death in 2010.

Billie enjoyed cooking, gardening, and entertaining friends and neighbors in her home. She was a long time active member of First United Methodist Church of Stuart. She lived her Christian faith by delivering Meals on Wheels for many years and supporting youth ministry among others. She was also a member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization dedicated to the education and advancement of women around the world.

Billie is survived by her son Tom Boyd (Janice); her daughter Kaye Alesevich (Nick); her son-in-law David England; brother Frank Gordon Jr. (Pat); sister Betty Peterson (Walt); grandchildren Elizabeth Boyd Lynn (Tripp), Jennifer Boyd Butterworth (Blake), Christie Alesevich Fedor (Nick), Kelly Alesevich, Ryan England (Sally), Ansley England Powers (Eric); and great-grandchildren Bradley Lynn and Thomas and Kate England. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter Kathy England and her sister Melba Curtin.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, May 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Forest Hills Funeral Home in Palm City. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Stuart. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to FUMC Stuart or Treasure Coast Hospice.
