Billie Dodd Hataway, 89, of Palm City, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 with his family around him.

He was born to the late James "Jimmy" Walter Hataway and Susan "Sallie" Edith Hataway on May 11, 1935 in Indiantown, FL. Bill graduated in 1954 from Stuart High School and attended Stetson University in Deland, FL on a football scholarship for a short time. He married the love of his life Anna Mae (DeLoach) Hataway on March 12, 1955. After they were married, Bill played semi-pro basketball and baseball in Stuart.

They lived in Stuart until 1965 when they moved to Palm City, FL where they raised their three children, Jimmy, Eddie and Janet and a multitude of "extra children".

Bill started his construction career at Dickerson Construction Company driving heavy equipment but worked his way to Vice President. He worked there for 30+ years. He then worked at Sheltra & Sons of Indiantown, Caulkins Citrus of Indiantown, and then retired from his own consulting business.

Bill loved to shoot skeet, hunt, fish and camp. He was a lifelong member of NSSA since 1976. He registered over 221,950 targets through the years. His last championship tournament was in 2006, and he finished third high overall with 393 of 400 targets & he did all of this with a damaged left eye. His last registered targets were in 2013. Bill traveled to Argentina for a weeklong dove hunt, but his love was deer and turkey hunting.

Bill survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Mae, his children, Jimmy Hataway of Palm City, Eddie Hataway (MaryAnn) of Okeechobee and Janet Vizzo (Rodney) of Gainesboro, TN. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, with a memorial gathering from 12 to 1 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1 pm at the Forest Hills Funeral Home in Palm City, FL.
