Ode to Mamma

Here's an ode to mother

To celebrate her day

This ditty is for mamma

There's so much it must say

Ninety-five years of living

Ninety-five years done well

Ninety-five years of giving

All the stories she could tell

Let us take a few steps back

Let's go way back when

You were just a little girl

Spoke Italian way back then

Growing up with love surround

We often heard you say

Your father he was truly grand

A pillar in his day

Oh how much you loved your dad

On and off the stage

Those were the days of joy and laughter

Time it turned the page

Days of work and pleasure

Coney Island bound

The friends the times the memories

The joys in life you found

Marriage and your children

The good times and the bad

All the while you smiled

And prayed when you were sad

You built a life on goodness

God was on your side

Our home was held together

With Mamma as our guide

Always gave to others

Like ice cream to the church

Kindness was the air you breathed

Left no one in the lurch

Hotel days

Making beds

You worked hard every day

Dollar by dollar it added up

What more is there to say

You and dad were something else

Quite a remarkable pair

He so tall and handsome

Your beautiful raven hair

Odd as a couple to some I'm sure

But what they didn't know

Is what you'd shared when all alone

On evenings long ago

So much time has gone by now

You've given all you can

Your life to all your children

Away the years they ran

Today one cannot measure

What your sacrifices weighed

All we know is that they totaled

Our lives made in the shade

Mom please know that you are worth

Much more than that of gold

There are no riches that compare

To the love you've dealt or hold

In closing here's a Final wish

That we'll meet again someday

We love you more than life itself

And for this we shall pray.

Lets' toast to Mom she's NINETY-FIVE

Let's toast to Mom tonight

Raise your glass .."God Bless you Mom"

You did everything just right

ALL OUR LOVE,

Maryann, Herb, Dee, Celeste, George, Camille & Leslie
