Carl Robert Fleming Jr., affectionately known as Zip, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on September 12, 2023, in Palm City Florida, at the age of 93. He was born on August 6, 1930, in Norwich, CT, to Carl and Mary Fleming.

Zip was a loving husband, married to Mary Elizabeth Leary (Betty) for 71 years. Together, they raised three sons: Carl M Fleming, Gary S. Fleming, and Paul J. Fleming. Zip was a dedicated family man and cherished his role as a father,
grandfather and great grandfather.

A genuine, fun-loving soul, Zip had a heart of gold and was a friend to many. He had a vibrant personality and a gregarious nature that endeared him to everyone he met. Zip served his country with honor and distinction, having been a Veteran of
both the Marine Corps and the Army.

In his professional life, Zip worked as a Prudential Insurance Agent for over 30 years. He was highly regarded in his field and built lasting relationships with his clients.

Outside of work, Zip had a passion for collecting, travel, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

Zip is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; his son Carl M Fleming, wife Kathleen, and their two sons, Carl M Jr. and Michael; his son Gary Fleming, wife Karin, and their two sons, Gary Brooks and Steven, along with their respective families and his daughter-in-law Karen Fleming.

Zip was predeceased by his son Paul, his parents, Carl and Mary, and his sisters Gloria and Alice.

A mass to celebrate Zips life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Norwich, CT at 10:00am followed by burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be at the Norwich Inn in The Cottage room at 12 noon.

Zip will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, kindness, and joy will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
