Obituary

Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 20, 1938, Carl was raised on Long Island and attended Great Neck North High School.

He graduated Syracuse University in 1959 and served 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserve.  After a short stint with a film & record company that saw him travel to Czechoslovakia, Rumania and the Soviet Union, he went to work for Hertz International Corp. He lived in London, England, Edinburgh, Scotland, and Paris, France. He then became the General Manager of Hertz Scandinavia, domiciled in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the youngest top executive at Hertz International at 24 years of age.

While on a business trip to Amsterdam, he met the love of his life, June Pickney.  She was modeling in Europe after attaining the title of Miss Illinois 1958 and third runner-up Miss United States.  She was also Miss Marine Corp Reserve in 1959.  After a short whirl-wind courtship, they had 55 years of true love together.  Upon return to the United States and a short stint with Hertz running Latin America and the Caribbean Zone, Carl became a seat holder and Member of the American Stock Exchange for almost 25 years.  He had two firms that did trading and brokerage and he was a Senior Floor Official for his last 10 years.

He was, also, a proficient golfer and Club Champion at two clubs that he was a member of over the years.  He and June retired in 1992 to their favorite place on earth, Harbour Ridge in Palm City, Fl.  Carl served on the Board of Harbour Ridge two times for 6 years as Golf and Green Chairman, at the same time.  He was also the Captain of the FSGA Rating team that gave Slope and Index Ratings to every golf course in Martin, St Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties. When he was a member of the FSGA Champions Rating Team, Florida won best team twice in the USGA East Coast contest.

June's deep involvement with the unique Hope Rural School in Indiantown led to Carl becoming a member of their Board of Directors, which he was, until his demise. He is survived by his son, Eric, daughter-in law, Stacie and the two loves of his life, grandson, Jack and granddaughter, Skye.

Carl also wrote a quasi- biography through Story Teller that answered questions asked of him that revealed the history of the Schlanger migration to the United States in the 1880's through his life time.  It was done so that there will be a record for the next generations in his family. It is titled…."A Life Well Spent"….And it certainly was.
