IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Allison
Bailey
July 1, 1952 – October 18, 2021
Carol Allison Bailey (Hinderlie), beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, wife & friend died unexpectedly on October 18, 2021 in Palm City, FL.
Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on July 1, 1952 during an epic summer thunderstorm, Carol was the daughter of Anna & Mark Hinderlie. She treasured her parents and idyllic "Norman Rockwell-esque" childhood with her 3 sisters, Paula, Martha, and Louise and brother, Michael. She told wonderful stories of her youth, reminiscing of a simpler and carefree time with days spent walking home for lunch from Belmont Elementary School, and adventures in her grandmother's attic and in Central Park. The Hinderlies were proud of their Norwegian and Icelandic roots and family history with the American Lutheran Church.
In 1964, Carol's father Mark moved the family to Janesville, Wisconsin for his job with the Lutheran church. Carol enjoyed her time at Craig High School, where she was an active participant in everything from cheerleading to water ballet. A true child of the 60's, Carol often told the stories of "rebelling" by altering her school issued cheerleading uniform, joining the "rowdy squad," and dying her hair the night before high school graduation.
From a young age, Carol found her purpose as a listener and caretaker. She channeled these gifts in roles as a hospital aid, nursing home assistant , and social worker. Carol's ability to connect through her genuine words and kindness were hallmarks of who she was. She was a wonderful listener and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and had an innate ability to help people open up.
In 1980 Carol married her husband James Bailey in Janesville and they settled in Beloit, Wisconsin where their children Christopher and Allison were born. Shortly after Allison was born, the family moved to South Florida. In more recent years, Carol & Jim spent summers and falls in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Born to be a mother, Carol cherished her time as a parent. She enjoyed lifelong close relationships with her children and was known for her wonderful hugs that could turn your whole day around and take any pain away. Her children will remember the loving home she created and how special she made them feel with her attention to detail. She was a "MomGyver", able to fix or find anything. Some of her favorite days were spent as homeroom mother, school tutor, ballet costume seamstress and parent editor for the school yearbook. Carol loved the ocean, and especially going to the beach every Sunday with her family.
Over the years, she enjoyed reading, British history, interior design, holiday decorating, "movie days," cycling, and baking. Carol was a natural storyteller, with a genuine sense of wit that was appreciated by those closest to her. She treasured her long talks with her siblings, who lived throughout the country. It wasn't uncommon for Carol to spend an entire day chatting with her siblings in their pajamas on her screened in porch in Lake Geneva when they would come to visit. Her sense of style was unmatched and timeless. A self-proclaimed "cat lady", Carol eventually made the shocking decision to adopt a Yorkshire Terrier named Atticus (after a character in her favorite book To Kill a Mockingbird), a cherished companion until her last days.
Carol often spoke of her excitement at being a grandmother in her later years and was overjoyed when her granddaughter, Caroline (who was named after her) was born in October 2016. Carol and Caroline had a special bond. Her beloved son in law, Jack remarked that Carol and Caroline were "soulmates." She took delight in her granddaughter's imagination, creating a play kitchen for Caroline with numerous appliances out her many Amazon boxes during the covid lockdown. Caroline & Carol also loved playing with play-doh, dancing as "prima ballerinas", making pancakes, reading bedtime stories, and precious cuddles.
Carol will be dearly missed, but the gift of her love will live on in those that were fortunate to share in her life, most especially her adoring family.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Mark Hinderlie and her brother, John Mark. She is survived by her husband, James, her son, Christopher Bailey(Cheyenne), daughter, Allison Siragusa(Jack), granddaughter Caroline Siragusa, siblings, Paula Ryan, Martha Hinderlie, Michael Hinderlie, Louise Rogers and nephew and niece, Peter and Emma.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate and suggest memorial contributions to be made to the American Heart Association(heart.org), or a favorite charity.
