Obituary of Catherine Sampson

Catherine Kay Sampson, of Port St. Lucie, passed away at her residence, December 24, 2007. She was born December 12, 1932 in Cambridge, MA, and had been a resident of Port St. Lucie since 1989, moving from Sudbury, MA.

Catherine began her career while still in High School, in which she was a straight A student, by working at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Boston. She later went to college at night for Electrical Engineering, to become an electrical tracer and draftsman for GE, working on projects for the U.S. Navy. After raising a family, she became an electronics technician for Western Electric/AT&T in Massachusetts, and retired in 1989 after 22 years of service. She and her husband Bob then moved to Florida, which had been the familys lifelong dream.

Kay was an athlete in her youth and made the papers as a basketball player on the Cambridge Rayette team. During her retirement, she swam every night at the pool in the Savanna Club. She was an accomplished guitarist and songwriter, poet and author of many short stories, some of which she had hoped to publish.

All of her life she was a gardener with two green hands, and loved her Florida gardens. She had a heart of love for all animals and wildlife.

She was a member of St. Lucie Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bobby Sampson of Port St. Lucie; daughter, Susan T.Sampson of Stuart; and her sister, Mary Theresa MacKenzie & family of Boston, MA.

Visitation will be 6 8:00 PM, Thursday, December 27, 2007 and 6 8:00 PM, Friday, December 28, 2007 at Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Forest Hills Funeral Home chapel.

Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City.
