Charles L. Sausman

June 1, 1943—April 17, 2019

Born in Thompsontown, PA to David Shelly Sausman and Ada Elizabeth Shirk.  He was Valedictorian at his graduation from East Juniata High School and received his BS degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

He was married for 53 years to Sarah (Sally) Thorne of Plymouth Meeting, PA.  He is the father of Kathleen Sausman Judd of Charleston SC and grandfather of Samantha Judd, a freshman at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, and Grant Judd, a junior at Charleston Collegiate School.  He was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather with the well-being of his family always his top priority.

His business career was spent primarily in the hospitality industry as owner and manager of a company that operated hotel and motel properties in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Florida.  He was a franchisee of Hilton, Sheraton, Holiday Inn and Quality Inn.

He loved sports and played baseball, basketball and soccer during his school years.  He was an enthusiastic water skier, snorkeler and scuba diver.  He had a life-long love of golf, starting to play when he was 14 years old.  During his 25 year residence in Boca Raton, FL, he was a member of Boca Grove CC and Woodfield CC.  Since retirement in 2006, he resided at Piper's Landing CC in Palm City, FL.

He spent many happy summers at a much-loved vacation home in Highland Falls CC in Highlands, NC, where he served on the Board of Directors, as President of the Community Association and where he forged some of the strongest friendships of his life.  He enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, and visited over 40 countries.
