Daniel S. Capper, 79, of Palm City, Florida, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Martin Medical Center, Stuart, Florida.
Born in Washington, DC, he had been a resident of Palm City for just over a year coming from Stuart, Florida. He came to Florida from St. Mary's County, Maryland.
He graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania with a bachelor degree.
Before retiring he owned and operated Capper's Nurseries in McLean, Virginia and Dameron, Maryland. He had been the founder and past president of Garden Centers of America, president of the Virginia Nurseymen's Association, president of The Three Oaks Center in Lexington Park, Maryland, president of St. Mary's Nursing Center, Vice President of Miles Grant Country Club and director of United Virginia Bank Shares, the future Suntrust Bank.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ellyn Capper of Palm City; his daughter, Suzanne Mattingly of Aiken, South Carolina and his son, Daniel Capper. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Zinke.
