Obituary

Dr. David George Hakala was born in Conneaut, Ohio, June 13, 1945, to parents Lauri Oliver Hakala and Saima Maria Hakala. He was an educator for thirty-one years. It gave him great joy to teach all the children and adults who came through his classroom doors. He also loved preaching the word of God whenever he could.

Being educated was important to him, earning his many degrees in the state of Florida, which he made his home for the remainder of his life after high school graduation. There, he was able to spend his leisure time on his greatest passion, boating and fishing. David also loved his Lord passionately. In his last months of life, during his hospital and rehab stays, it gave him great joy to witness to all that came his way.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Palm City, where he served as a council member, was co-leader of the Stephen Ministry, and also a liaison for the Real Life Children's Ranch, Okeechobee, FL. For many years.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Kaija-Maria Hakala, their daughter, Krista Maria Simmons (Clinton), their granddaughter, Anja Maria Simmons, all of Palm City. Also survived by his brother Ronald Thomas Hakala, Boynton Beach, FL.; his sister-in-law Cassandra Olive Tuominen of Colorado; his nieces Laura Kirsti Amigroud (JR), Marni Lea Cruz (Pedro) of Colorado.

A memorial service will be held May 1, 2021, at 11 am, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Palm City. A lunch in will follow if permitted.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave's memory to the memorial fund of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Real Life Children's Ranch, Okeechobee, FL., or the charity of your choice.
