Obituary of David Kennedy

Dr. David Kennedy 99, of Palm City, passed away December 16, 2015. He was born in the Tip Hill Section of Syracuse, NY, on September 23, 1916. His parents were James J. Kennedy and Nora Curtin Kennedy. After graduation from Central High School, he attended Syracuse University and the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his dental degrees in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy for 5 ½ years during WWII on the USS Ranger, and he attained the rank of Commander in the Dental Corps. He completed his oral surgery training at NYU Dental School and Bellevue Hospital. He returned to Syracuse in 1948 and enjoyed a thirty year career as an oral surgeon, before retiring to Florida, eventually landing in Palm City.

He was very active in the dental community as a member of 8 national and local groups. He served as editor-in-chief of the fifth district bulletin and president of the NY State Society of Oral Surgeons and Onondaga County Dental Society. His hobbies included tennis, golf, and writing. As an amateur playwright, he wrote plays well into his nineties. One of his efforts was performed at Brooklyn College and two were produced at Indian River Junior College.

He is survived by his wife, Marty, and two sons, David and Terry; two step-children, Shana Neal and Scott Crawford; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His first wife, Hazel and daughter, Mary Louise, and sister Mary Kennedy, predeceased him.

Memorial Mass will be 10:00 AM. Monday, December 21, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Palm City.

A Celebration of Life reception will follow at Monarch Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997, in Dr. Kennedy's memory.
