Obituary

David Serls, Owner, Chairman of the Board and Chief Operating Officer of Colonial Metals Co., Inc., Columbia, PA as well as a past president of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Washington, D.C., passed away due to complications of pneumonia on June 11, 2018, in his home state of Florida.

David, who was born in 1935, is survived by a large and diverse family, namely his wife, Denise Serls; his children Phillip Serls, Shari and Craig Friedman, Harla and Eric Verman, Michelle Young and John Bagdadlian, Michael and Angelica Pember; his grandchildren Jeremy Serls, Kacie Goodman, Bari Dixon, Jacob Friedman, Hana Friedman, Jayme Verman, Vashak Svoboda, Mikaela and Aleksia Pember; great grandchildren, Kennedy and Paxton Serls; and his beloved Goldendoodles, Harlii and Sammii.

David, who preferred to be called "GRUMPY" was an avid boater and sports fanatic who supported the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens and the Philadelphia Flyers, rode motorcycles and collected antique cars, and enjoyed gardening.  Never one to be at a loss for his convictions, David was extremely supportive of the United States and Israel.  Worried about his country, David followed national and local politics and supported measures that would benefit both the United States and Israel as well as his community through his contributions to the Republican Party/candidates as well as his participation on multiple   multiple missions to Israel.  Born and raised Orthodox, David followed the Reform Movement and was generous in his contributions to the United Jewish Appeal, Jewish Federation, his local synagogue as well as having "adopted" an Israeli youngster.

Funeral services will be held June 21, 2018 at Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City, FL.  Shiva will be held at Temple Beit HaYam, Stuart, Florida, at 6 pm, June 21 and June 23-27.  The family asks those who wish to make a remembrance of David's life, would honor him by considering the United Jewish Appeal, the Jewish Federation or the National Kidney Foundation.
