Deane had always said: he would prefer people donate money to the Florida Oceanographic Society in his memory instead of sending flowers. After all, you have already honored his life with your blossoming soul.

Deane was born in Ft. Sheridan,Illinois to Mildred and Clifford MacMillan. He was the oldest of five children. He lived in Hebron, Indiana as a youngster and had fond memories of time spent on his grandparents' farm. The family moved often while Deane was growing up, settling in Hudson Lake, Indiana where he graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1951. He joined the Marines that summer and served as Staff sergeant during the Korean War. He married Marilyn Jones in 1953 and together reared three girls.
He graduated in 1958 from Purdue University with a degree in Engineering then moved the family to Anderson, Indiana where he took a job with the GuideLamp Division of General Motors. After earning an MBA in Business at Ball State University the family moved to Birmingham, Michigan. Deane continued to work in Engineering and Sales at plants involved in the auto industry. In 1980 he married his second wife Lindy Donigan and gained 3 stepsons. They eventually bought a Condo in Stuart, Florida and spent many years vacationing there. They transitioned from SnowBirds to full time Florida Residents.
Deane was active in the Stuart Yacht and Country Club, Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center, and Elliott Museum. Deane enjoyed golf, fishing, and traveling to see the world. Being proud of his Scottish Heritage Deane and his dad took a trip to find their roots and visit distant relatives. He especially enjoyed sharing a drink or meal and entertaining friends and family with his Deane Jokes. He was generous, friendly, and held family close to his heart. He found many opportunities to host extended family gatherings and vacations. He will be greatly missed by all.
