DENZIL J.R. SMITH
Denzil John Robert Smith,85 years old ,passed away on November 6,2023.Denzil is affectionately known as Papa, Landlord, Uncle Denny, Father, Husband, and Son.
Denzil was born in Kingston, Jamaica on May 29,1938 to the late Leonora Bailey and Cyril Smith .He had 4 siblings ,one sister and 3 brothers with a number of nieces and nephews that love him dearly.
He was educated in Kingston, Jamaica and later migrated to the United States in the 1960s.Denzil became an Associate Engineer at Rockefellar Center in New York City for over 30 years.
He met Minnell in 1956 and married on June 24,1965.They have 3 children: Patricia, Angela Smith, Delroy (Michelle) Smith, 6 grandchildren: Shaneeka, Marcal, Craig, Shana, Sharese, Cameron. and 12 great grandchildren.
In Denzil's spare time he enjoyed watching horse races at the track and playing dominos with friends and family. He loved to offer a helping hand in any way he could. Denzil shared his talents with everyone, he would help paint and provide his expertise in plumbing when needed. He shared his love for food, friends and family by exercising his culinary skills and made his infamous Rum Punch for many during gathers and celebrations throughout the years.
Denzil's mantra that he lived by "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Nelson Mandela .He ensured his children and grandchildren knew the value of a good education and instilled integrity and character through his quiet demeanor and selective choice of words.
He is known for his gentle spirit, helpful nature and eternal love for his family and friends.
Denzil undoubtedly forged a legacy that catapulted his family forward and made an impact that will endure for generations to come.
Denzil transitioned at 4:07 am on November 6,2023 .Romans 15:4 says through the word of the Most High we have comfort and hope for everlasting life. Just as Abraham was the Father of many nations, Papa was a father to many. He is now resting in the bosom of his Savior.
Denzil will be tremendously missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday 11/24/2023 from 5-8PM at Forest Hills Palm City Chapel, Palm City.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday 11/ 25/2023 at 10 am at St. Lucie Catholic Church followed by burial that will take place at Forest Hills Palm City Memorial Park, Palm City, FL.
