Obituary of Dieter Backhaus

Dieter Backhaus, 79, of Stuart, died July 25, 2011 at Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart. He was born in Germany, and came to the United States when he was 19 years old. He moved to Palm City in 1974 from Long Island, NY and in 1987 he moved to Stuart. He had been a Mason, a Real Estate Agent, worked in the cleaning business and also in carpeting. He was a member of the Elks Club and the VFW.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Zanfini (Vincent)of Palm City; son, Peter Backhaus (Paula) of Gainesville; brother, Hanschen Backhaus (Brigitte) and sister, Hannelore Kohaupt both of Germany; 6 grandchildren, Vince, Steven, Kim, Kimberly, Kelly and Peter; 2 great grandchildren, Tristan Alexander and Ryan Madison; brother-in-law, Fritz Kayser; 3 nephews, Klaus (Ute), Jurgen (Petra)and their son Christopher and Michael and his son Pierre Maurice; and 1 niece, Linda (Anthony). He was preceded in death by his wife, Erika Kayser Backhaus and his parents, Ernst and Maria Koetke Backhaus.

A Gathering will be 5:30 - 6:30PM with a Memorial Service at 6:30 PM, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes, Palm City Chapel.
