Obituary of Doris McConnell

Doris McConnell passed away peacefully on January 1, 2014, in Stuart, Florida, at the Parkway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 93. She was born in Queens, New York to Alice Madge and Robert Millar and was a graduate of the State University of New York, Plattsburg. Doris was a high school teacher and guidance counselor for more than 20 years in Massapequa High School in Massapequa, NY. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Bert E. McConnell and her brother, Robert J. Millar, Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Joe Smith of Stuart, FL, and her son and daughter-in-law, Bert and Margaret McConnell of Cape Cod, MA. Doris leaves behind four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Doris and Bert were longtime residents of Long Island before retiring to Stuart, Florida. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, cooking, sewing, reading, and playing golf. She loved all animals and volunteered at the Humane Society thrift shop.

A private graveside service with family will be held at the Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City, Florida.
