Dorothy Hannah Burfoft, 97, died October 16, 2017 at Melech Hospice House in Tampa Florida.
Dorothy was born in Pittsburgh, PA June 20, 1920 and graduated from South Hills High School. Dorothy and husband Chuck Burtoft married January 11, 1941 and lived in Pittsburgh until 1962 when they moved to Florida, In 1968 they relocated to Stuart, FL where they resided for 44 years. Dorothy joined the First National Bank's Trust Department (now Seacoast Bank) in 1968 starting as an administrative assistant to the senior trust officer. She was promoted to trust officer and finally to assistant vice president and trust officer. Dorothy was a graduate of the Florida Trust School. She was a founder and co-director of BankExchange, First National's innovative organization of bank women. Ms. Burtoft was active in many Treasure Coast organizations. She served as President of the Southeast Florida Power Squadron Auxiliary. She was a member of the Martin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Martin County Estate Planning Council, the First National Bank and Trust Investment Committee and the National Association of Bank Women.
Dorothy and Chuck were avid sailors and campers. They both enjoyed an active social life well into their 90's. and were members of several area boating clubs, The Coconut Grove Yacht Club, the St. Lucie Yacht and Country Club and the southeast Power Squadron. They enjoyed visiting with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Charles Edward Burfoft: Parents; Charles and Sadie Hawkins (Richards); sister, Melinda Betty Kelly and brother, Thomas Hawkins. She is survived by daughter, Caryl Burtoft Menendez; son, Gary Edward Burftoft (Kay), grandchildren: Robert C. Sink Jr.; Shawn Michael Burtoft: Amiee Nicole Burfoft: Great grandchildren: Robert C. Sink III; Brent Shane Sink; Brooke Marie Sink and Great Great Grandchild, Sebastian Sink. Step grandchildren; Michael MENENDEZ (Brenda); Michelle Menendez, GREAT Step Grandchildren; Michael, Anthony and Kameryn Menendez.
Services will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, Florida 34990
