Dorothy Walker Grimes was born on August 19, 1925 in Miami, Florida and died peacefully on July 8, 2016 in Palm City, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, George S. Walker and Ruth B. Walker, her husband of 40 years Joseph U. Greely and her husband for 20 years Francis E. Grimes, her sister Mary Hoy and husband Paul Hoy, and her brothers Paul M. Walker and George (Bud) S. Walker, Jr., and her niece Tracey W. Clough and her nephew Paul M. Walker, Jr.. She is survived by her sister-in-law Harriet A. Walker, her step-daughters Suzanne Grimes and family of CA. and Alicia Grimes and her husband F. Ward Gaines, both of Takoma Park, MD. She is also survived by her nieces Julie W. Callaway, Lisa W. Darling, Betsy Hoy Washburn, and her nephews Timothy (TJ) Walker, George S. Walker III, Paul Hoy, Jr., Michael Walker Hoy, Robert Cletus Hoy, and her several great nieces and nephews.

Dorothy grew up in Miami, FL. She attended Gesu High School in Miami and graduated in 1943. She attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) from 1943-1945 during WWII. She attended the University of Miami from the fall of 1945-1947 when she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta International and remained an interested member throughout her lifetime. She began a career in business by becoming a buyer for Burdines Department Stores in Miami shortly after graduating. She continued with her career until her marriage to Joe Greely in 1951. At that time she began to travel extensively with Joe as he was a Pan Am captain. She enjoyed an active life with many friends and family. Initially, they lived in Coconut Grove, FL., but moved to Westport, CT. where they lived until Joe retired. They moved back to Stuart, FL. at that time and were both very active socially. After an extended fight with cancer, Joe passed away in 1991.

Dottie and Frank Grimes married in 1993 and were able to enjoy their close relationship and their traveling adventures to Africa, South America, and Europe during the 20 years they were married. Dottie loved interacting with her new extended family of Frank's children and grandchildren. She enjoyed their homes in Connecticut and Florida and their wonderful friends and family.

Dottie was a member of the Stuart Garden Club, Satin Leaf Circle and a member of the Elliot Museum. She also loved to play golf and bridge with her friends. Additionally, she was passionate about family and genealogy and had been able to trace her roots back to the 1500's. She kept in touch with all her family members and was the family historian as well as a font of knowledge for family current events. She will be missed greatly.

There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City, FL
