Douglas "Doug" Charles Sampson-77 was born in Malden, MA June 22, 1943, the son of Samuel D Sampson (d. 1967) and Margaret L (Grimes) Sampson (d. 1984). Doug passed away March 9, 2021 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer for the second time.
Doug lived in MA growing up and attended Newman Preparatory School in Boston, MA. Later he moved to Milford, MI where he spent many years operating a family business and enjoyed his off time at either Lost Lake Woods Club in Lincoln, MI or boating on Lake St. Clair in Mt. Clemens, MI. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and boating with his boys and arrived in Palm City, FL in 1982. He spent the remainder of his life in Palm City, although he continued his summer months at Lost Lake Woods Club for many years.
He also enjoyed yachting and spending time in Marsh Harbor, Bahamas with his extended family. During his many years in Martin County, he operated several successful businesses including Florida RF Labs, a state of the art manufacturing facility which brought many jobs to Martin County. His passion was building businesses from small companies to major players in various industries. After retirement he continued as a business consultant using his business acumen to help others. He also created patented technology he was very proud of.
Doug served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of the Treasure Coast, Piper's Landing Yacht and Country Club, Martin Memorial Foundation, Economic Council of Martin County and the 100 Club of Martin County where he was currently serving as President. He hosted several charity events for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and many others. His huge presence in a room and the meticulous planning for charity events will be missed by many Martin County residents.
Survivors include his son, Dwayne Edward Sampson and spouse Virginia (Ricker) Sampson of Palm City, FL, son Seann Daniel Sampson and spouse Christine (Efstathion) Sampson of Sunrise, FL. Also his nieces Christine (Moore) Litch and spouse Jeff Litch of Georgetown, MA and Cheryl (Moore) Sullivan and spouse Patrick Sullivan of Groveland, MA. He had two grandsons, three great grandchildren, several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his brothers, Franklin Sampson and Donald Sampson.
A memorial gathering will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park & Cemetery in Palm City, FL from 1pm to 3pm, and a memorial service will be held at 3pm on April 16, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doug's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice House of the Treasure Coast.
