Earl Lloyd Huntington died 12/26/2021 at Cleavland Clinic in Stuart, Fl. after a brief illness. He was 92.
He was born 9/2/1929 in Orangeville, UT, to Hannah Cox and rancher and general store owner Lloyd Huntington and grew up in Castle Dale, Utah. He attended the University of Utah before entering the Army and fighting in the Korean war. After his discharge as a captain, he returned to the University of Utah for his law degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
After law school, he moved to Washington DC and worked at the Department of Justice while working on his JDL at Georgetown. He met his wife, Phyliss Reed, also at the justice department, and they had three children: Jane, Ann, and Steve. Married on August 30th, 1960, they moved to New York in 1963 after Texas Gulf Sulfur hired him as a young lawyer. They later moved to Darien, CT, when Texas Gulf relocated their offices to Stamford.
He remained there for the rest of his career and retired in 1991 as general counsel and senior vice president. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to the Monarch Country Club in Palm City, FL, which he maintained was "the best place."
He was an excellent tennis player before switching to golf. They traveled across Europe and went on several cruises. Like his wife, he maintained lifelong friendships and entertained regularly. Later in life, his interests included investing, a book club, and playing bridge until the pandemic made indoor gatherings impossible. He told his daughter Jane that he never had a resume despite considerable success.
He is survived by children Jane Huntington, Ann Busiek, Steve Huntington, brother John Huntington, and grandchildren Aine Huntington, Daniel Busiek, Katherine Busiek, and Maeve Huntington. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyliss R. Huntington, brother Raymond Huntington, and sister Shirley Cataldo.
