Obituary of Edward Bishop
Lieutenant Colonel (USA, Ret.) Edward Louis Bishop
Age 75, of Palm City, Florida died at his residence on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. LTC Bishop was born on January 30, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to Louis and Elizabeth McKinley (Potter) Bishop. He graduated from Lake Placid High School, Lake Placid, NY in 1949. LTC Bishop graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1953; and later graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Naval War College. He also received a Masters Degree in Petroleum Management from the University of Kansas. LTC Bishop served in both the Infantry and Quartermaster Branches and commanded two battalions in Vietnam.
He retired from the Army in 1973 to be the Deputy Director of Economic Development for the state of Illinois. He then was Personnel Director for American Health & Life in Springfield, IL and later the president of American Credit Indemnity Corporation of Commercial Credit in Baltimore, MD. He loved the outdoors, fishing and golf. He enjoyed military history and socializing with his many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley (Hankinson) of Kingston, New York and by his exceptionally devoted children; a daughter, Lisa Bishop Hooker of Ft. Worth, TX; a son, Matthew Harper Bishop of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren, Robert Edward Hooker, Lauren Hooker Timmis, Leslie Ann Hooker, Emily Taylor Bishop and Jackson Thomas Bishop. Also surviving is a brother, John Carl Bishop of Toano, VA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, January 28, 2008 at St. Marys Episcopal Church, 623 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart, FL. Interment will take place at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, www.specialops.org
