Obituary of Edward McGowan

Edward McGowan, 93, of Palm City, died January 7, 2013 at Martin Medical Center in Stuart. He was born in New Jersey, and lived the majority of his life in Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. Edward graduated from Patchogue High School in Long Island, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Hofstra University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant. For 25 years Edward was a winter resident of Palm City and 7 years ago he became a full time resident of Palm City. He had been a very successful land and commercial real estate developer before retirement. He was the Chairman of the Long Island Bridge and Tunnel Study under Governor Rockefeller. He was a founder of the St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada. He was a major benefactor to Martin Medical Center in Stuart, the Elliot Museum, the Lyric Theatre, the Kane Center and the Wounded Warrior's Project. Ed was an avid Golfer and shot seven holes in one.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Joan McGowan of Palm City; daughter, Kathleen McGowan Carnes of North Carolina; son, Ronald McGowan of CA; and a brother, David McGowan of Houston, TX.
