Obituary of Eleanor Booth

Eleanor "Ellie" M. (nee Hopf) Dooley Booth passed July 8th surrounded by family after a long illness. Ellie was born on February 21, 1924 in Lawrence, MA. She moved to Miami, Florida in 1947 after serving as a Navy nurse in WWII, where she met her first husband who had return from serving in the Pacific theater. She worked for a private care doctor for 40 years as a lab technician.

Ellie loved animals, especially cats. So when she moved to Hobe Sound in 1980, she cared for the Jupiter Island feral cat population, spaying and neutering those she could trap and release. She founded the Hobe Sound Animal Protection League which has morphed into Caring Fields Felines in Palm City. In her later years she fed pretty much any creature that showed up to her door (fox, raccoons, and even a wild hog).

She was predeceased by two husbands: Charles C. Dooley & Frederick M. Booth.

Ellie is survived by her children: Carol Linville of Folly Beach SC, Charles "Cam" Dooley of Yukon, OK, Michael Dooley of Hobe Sound and Pamela Walker of Hobe Sound. She also has 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Friends may visit on Friday, July 17 at the First Methodist Church of Hobe Sound on US #1 between the hours of 5 & 7:30. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18 at the church at 11:00 AM., with burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City.
