Obituary of Eleanor Creed
Eleanor "Ellie" McSparron Creed of Stuart, passed away on August 29, 2009. Ellie grew up in Sayre, PA. She graduated from the Robert Packer School of Nursing in Sayre and had a long and rewarding career as an RN. She initially worked as a nurse in New York City and Syracuse, NY. In 1953 she married Durwood Creed and moved to Rome, NY. She then joined the staff at the Rome City and Murphy Memorial Hospital and remained there for 29 years. For 26 of those years she was the director of nurses for a staff of 400 full and part time nurses.
Ellie was a very compassionate person, always looking for ways to help other people. In addition to her hospital activities she was active in a number of community organizations. These included the Rome United Way, the Red Cross, President of the Rome Professional Nurses Club, and the Chairman of the advisory council for the State University College of Technology, Nursing Department.
After her retirement from Rome Hospital she enjoyed living in Stuart, FL, first as part-time and later full time. In Stuart she continued to work as a volunteer nurse for a number of years. For those wishing to do so, contributions to the Alzheimer Association would be appreciated.
She is survived by her husband, Durwood L. Creed of Stuart; and two sisters, Ellen Button and Phyllis Gurgel both of Sayre, PA. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Glossinger and brother, William McSparron.
