Obituary of Elizabeth Bedford
Elizabeth (Betty) Wall Bedford (95) passed away peacefully at Hospice of Martin County in Stuart, FL on Monday, April 14, 2008. The daughter of John P. and Elizabeth H. Wall, she was born on January 26, 1913, in New Brunswick, NJ. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Harry N. Bedford and sister Evelyn Wall Bettes.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie B. Huber of Jupiter, FL and a son, Bruce P. Bedford of Palm City, FL. Her grandchildren include Brian Huber of Waverly, OH and Kathy Huber Kent of Naperville, IL and Kara Huber Luckadoo of Hamilton, OH, Susan Bedford Martin of Etobicoke, ON Canada and Julie Ann Bedford Vanderbilt of Arlington, VA. She has 6 great grandchildren including, Elizabeth and Stephen Kent, Jacqueline and Jillian Luckadoo, and Elizabeth and Joseph Martin.
She grew up in New Brunswick, where her father owned J.P. mens wear and was later NJ State Historian. She graduated in 1933 from NJC (now Rutgers) with a BA degree, where she was active in swimming, choir and student government. After graduation, she worked for PSE as a customer service representative, and later as a perfume buyer for Bamburgers.
In August, 1937 she married Harry, a Rutgers engineering graduate in 1933. Harry worked at General Electric Co. (Bridgeport, CT) in radio and radar manufacturing. In the 1940s, they then moved to Rittman, OH and then to New Castle, IN. During this time Betty became a gourmet cook, began sewing in earnest, and took up golf. All three of these skills distinguished her for the rest of her life. Later moving to Rochester, NY and Palos Verdes, CA, she and Harry became avid travelers to our countrys national parks and various mineral digs. During this time, she became a talented silversmith. After the death of Harry, she relocated to Sandhill Cove in Palm City, FL to be closer to her children.
