Elizabeth Murray's Obituary
Elizabeth Murray, precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed gently in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 23, with her children, Len and Mary, close by.
Elizabeth was born on a farm in Hudson, Michigan on May 19, 1921 to Peter and Elizabeth (Pota) Lanczki who immigrated to the United States from Hungary. She was eldest daughter in a large Catholic family and last survivor of their thirteen children.
During World War II, Betty trained to be a registered nurse, but did not practice her profession after starting her family.
She spent her early adult life in city of Detroit, but has resided in South Port St. Lucie since 1972. Betty and her husband, Leonard, built one of the original houses in Sandpiper Bay.
Betty was kind, generous, encouraging and positive. She loved to cook. She looked forward to visits from family and friends from Michigan and Texas who came to see her at her home in the Sunshine State.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Murray, in 1985, and daughter, Nancy Murray, in 2009.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Mary Smith, and Mary's children, Nicole Pike, Dan and Will Smith.
She is also survived by her son, Len, and Nancy's daughters, Michelle Huckeba and her husband, Dan, and Jennie Smolarz, and her husband, Darrin, and their children, Rachel, Jacob and Jonathan.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Park at funeral chapel on
Friday, January 26, at 2:00 pm.
