IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eurel D.
Longmore
May 16, 1951 – August 2, 2023
REMEMBRANCE
After this I looked and behold, a door standing open in heaven! Revelations 4:1.
At 2:45 a.m., Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023. Eurel Douglas Longmore walked through the door to be with his Lord and Savior.
Eurel, affectionately called Hugh, Doc., Longmore was born on April 16th, 1951, to Harold Longmore and Eulie Brown in Cowic Park, Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies. His grandmother however registered the birth as May 16th, 1951. He was the first of six children, born to them. His siblings include, Gwendolyn Lalor, (Cotty), Michelle Lalor-Collins, Patrick and Paul Forbes, and Carol Wint-Brown. He was also blessed with six additional siblings by his father, Harold Longmore, namely, Danny (deceased), Barrington, Julie, Dellorie, Jeffrey and Susan.
The time spent with his mother and siblings cultivated a love for giving and helping others that defined the person he was.
As a young boy, Eurel was always into fixing electronic equipment. At the age of 14, Uncle Eurel went to live with The McLeod's in Spanish Town, where he was introduced to construction trade, however, his passion was elsewhere. Uncle Eurel was welcomed into the family where he embraced Mrs. Erna as mother, Brother McLeod as dad, and their seven children (Richard, Judith, Elaine, Ann, David, Antionette and Sammy) as his siblings. Their inseparable bond continued to grow over the years.
Uncle Eurel attended the Evergreen Basic School, Saint Paul's Primary School, and Kingston Technical High School, where he excelled in his studies and was known for his quick and hands on experiences in handling electronic gadgets, which later led him to gain employment at Homelectrix Service Center and Carrier Air Conditioning (CAC), he became a supervisor for his department. For his hard work ethics, and care for others, he attended various training seminars and workshops, and was named salesperson of the year. He was awarded trips to Spain, Hawaii, and Europe to name a few.
In 1971 he met the love of his life, Hyacinth Mignott, aka June. They got engaged three months later, on August 21st, and were married two years following on August 18th, 1973, as soon as she completed her internship as a teacher. The union produced a son, Garfield Lawrence Longmore.
Uncle Eurel was a faithful, loving, caring husband and father. Ensuring his family's needs were met. A hard-working person whose eyes were filled with doing and giving. He excelled at any task given to him, even in making his favorite cornmeal porridge.
In May 1988, Eurel with his family migrated to the United States of America. They resided in Brooklyn, New York with his wife's mother and after a year purchased their own home in Queens Village, Queens, NY. He continued in his electronics/maintenance field, working at CAC in Manhattan, short-term at Chase Bank, then moved on with the help of a close family friend to his desired field of expertise (electronics) with British Airways at JFK International Airport until his retirement. He was loved and respected by all, a hard worker who took great pride in accomplishing his task and helping others in achieving the same goal.
Uncle Eurel was an avid sports fan. He played and watched cricket in his earlier years, hence he named his son Garfield Lawrence from the famed West Indies cricketers, (Garfield Sober & Lawrence Rowe). He was an active volleyball player and held the title of President of The Ensom City Volleyball Team. Uncle enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends, and as such would host lavish BBQs and family gatherings. The last was held in August 2022.
In 2016 the family relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida and attended Grace Family Church, his wife later transferred to the Church of God here at Treasure Coast.
Early this year, Eurel started to complain of severe abdominal pain, and it was in March he was diagnosed with restriction of the bile duct, which later led to a mass. He endured a lot of pain with this illness. It was during the visitation of prayer groups, continuous prayers offered on his behalf all over the globe, and his Hyacinth's continuous intercession, that Eurel rededicated his life to the Lord, singing, "I Surrender All." There is no doubt watching, as he succumbed peacefully, to be with the Lord that Wednesday morning.
Eurel Douglas Longmore is survived by his wife, Hyacinth Longmore, son Garfield, siblings, 2 aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers & sisters-in-law, and close friends. Uncle Eurel was blessed with 72 years. He touched the hearts of many and was truly a blessing. He loved and was loved in return. He will be missed dearly. His lifetime of family dedication, self-sacrifice, and love serve as a monument to the exemplary man he was. His humility, integrity and hard work continue to aspire those who knew him.
Uncle Eurel taught us many things, but the one that meant the most, was the importance of family. We are comforted in knowing that the Souls of the Righteous are in the Hands of God.
