Obituary

Florence Marie Skinner was born on June 16, 1925 to Edward and Eloise Boyhen of Stratford, Connecticut. Her father worked for the telephone company as a lineman and her mother worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross and the Stratford Congregational church while caring for her brother Edward Jr. and Florence. Her favorite hobbies were dancing, playing the violin and horseback riding. She graduated from Stratford High School, during the World War Two years worked in the office at Chance Vought Aircraft Corporation helping to build some of the best aircraft of World War Two.

In 1946, Florence married the love of her life, Joseph Skinner. Joseph took a break from his work at the Bridgport Post-Telegram newspaper to serve in the photography department in the Army Air Force in the Pacific theater. They enjoyed more than fifty years of marriage before he passed away in 1997.

During the years that Joseph was at college Florence worked as an office worker in Bridgeport, Connecticut. After retiring they moved from Connecticut to two vacation homes, one in Maine and the other in Florida. They loved traveling together abroad and through the US in a motorhome. After Joseph passed away Florence lived in Florida and eventually moved in with her daughter, Sandra, in Albemarle, North Carolina. When Sandra passed away in December of 2014, Florence stayed in Albemarle and lived first at Taylor House and then later at Trinity Place passing away on June 12, 2019.

They had two children, Sandra DeTuzzi and Bruce Skinner. Sandra married and moved to Albemarle, North Carolina with her husband from Milford, Connecticut. Bruce went to college to become a music teacher and married a Dutch girl he met while living in Kansas. Bruce moved about 20 years ago to Holland. Counting the Dutch and American family together, Florence has four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
