Sundheim, Jr.
April 11, 1945 – April 4, 2023
Frederick George Sun dheim, Jr. , 77 , passed April 4, 2023 in Stuart, Florida. He was born April 11, 1945 in Denver, C O, the son of Frederick G. Sundheim and Marguerite Hevert Sundheim.
Fred graduated from Hackettstown High School in New Jersey in 1963 , and West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1967 with a major in History. Shortly after graduation he a nd his high school sweetheart Joan Carol Hammel were married. Three months after their wedding a " Greetings from Uncle Sam " l etter was received on Christmas Eve enlisting Fred in the US Army. After basic training he was deployed to Cu Chi, Vietnam with the 25 th Infantry Division , 3 rd Squadron 4 th Cavalry (Mackenzie's Raiders) where he served from 1968-1969. He was a proud member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and T he Combat Infantrymen' s Association.
Upon returning from Vietnam , Fred enrolled in Cumberland School of Law , Birmingham, A L . During a summer break he and Joan came to visit family in Palm City , FL . It was then that he met Attorney Ted Oughterson who asked him to Clerk for the summer. Upon graduation, earning his Doctor Of Jurisprudence Degree in 1972 , Fred and Joan along with Daughter Sandy Lynn moved to Palm City , F L . Fred was then invited to join the Law Firm of Ough terson, Oughterson and Prewitt , established in Stuart in 1925. Fifty years later Fred retired from practicing law leaving the F irm of Ough terson, Sundheim and Associates to D aughter Sandy who continue s to follow in her Father's footsteps. Fred was a member of the American Bar , The Florida Bar ( since 1973 ) and Martin County Bar (President 1997 ) Associations . He was a member of Rotary International , a Charter Member and past President of the India-Lucie Rotary Club and a recipient of a Paul Harris S ustaining M ember ship Award .
Being of Norwegian Heritage , Fred always had a love of boating which he passed on to his children, especially son Christopher and his grandchildren. Fred loved his vehicles, especially Corvette's , loved traveling with Joan abroad and in his Motor home . More than anything Fred loved spending time with his family and friends.
Fred is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan Hammel Sundheim, Daughter Sandy Sundheim (Michael La Martina) of Palm City, FL; Son Christopher (Jessica Deggeller Sundheim) of Palm City, FL and four Grandchildren , Kaley Strausbaugh, Kyle Strausbaugh, Zane Sundheim, and Teak Sundheim . Fred is also survived by Brother Arthur Sundheim (Fran ces ) , niece Beth Garg (Jutin) , nephew James, several C ousins , Step-brothers and a Step-sister.
Fred was predeceased by his father, Frederick G. Sundheim (and Step-mother Maggie), his mother, Marguerite Simpson (and Step-father Girard) and Brother Kenneth Sundheim.
A Service will be held at Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City, Florida on Friday, April 21, 2023. Memory Gathering 10-11:00 am, Service to follow at 11:00 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
