Obituary of Geoffrey O'Connell

Geoffrey D. O'Connell, 80, of Stuart, died May 10, 2013 at his residence.

He was born in New York City and had been a resident of the Treasure Coast for over 25 years coming from Long Island, New York.

During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force.

Prior to retiring, he had been an inspector for the U.S. Government. He also worked for Forest Hills Funeral Homes for many years.

He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Palm City, FL. He was a Fourth Degree Knight, belonging to Father Michael McGivney Assembly 1764, and Council 7514 in Port St. Lucie. He was a Past Faithful Navigator in Assembly 1764, a Past Grand Knight of Council 13042, St. Bernadette's and was a Former District Warden of old District 5. He was also very active with the St. Vincent de Paul Society both in Port St. Lucie and Stuart for over 10 years.

Survivors include his wife Rita O'Connell of Stuart; sons, Geoffrey T. O'Connell of Middle Island, New York and Barry O'Connell of Jupiter, FL; daughters, Helen Alexander of Apollo Beach, FL and Claire Kulak of Islip, NY; a brother, Daniel O'Connell of Port St. Lucie; Sisters, Mary Henkel, Patsy Rosenthal and Margaret Fagan all of Florida; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

SERVICES: Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 PM on May 13, 2013 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes Palm City Chapel, with a vigil prayer service at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on May 14, 2013 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Interment will be in South Florida VA National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL with military honors.
