Obituary

George Bomer Clark, Sr., of Palm City, Florida passed away peacefully early Friday morning May 7, 2021.  Born April 28, 1924, he was ninety-seven years of age.
George was the patriarch of a large, close, and loving family.
He is predeceased by his first wife of twenty-nine years and the mother of his six children, Frances O'Connell Clark; his brother H. Grant Clark, Jr.; his son George Bomer Clark, Jr.; his second wife Loretta Clark; and his son-in-law David Griffin, Sr.  He leaves a sister (Janet Younglove – Illinois), four sons, a daughter, and five daughters-in-law: (Jane Clark – Texas, Brian and Ulanda Clark - Arizona, John and Jane Clark – Florida/Connecticut, Thomas and Debra Clark – Connecticut, Mary Griffin - North Carolina/Virginia, and Andrew and Peggy Clark– Connecticut).  In addition, he leaves fifteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren with another on the way.  He was lucky to have a special "angel" in his life – Diane Naylor, Loretta's daughter-in-law.  Diane lives nearby and took care of his every need since his children lived far away.  Diane was a daughter to him and is a sister to all of us.
In addition, he had a wonderful companionship with Nancy In-Hout, his next door neighbor at Sand Hill Cove for the last nine years.
Born in Chicago, he was raised on the South Side and later moved to the northern suburbs; notably Glencoe and Northfield.
He was a courageous Army Air Forces pilot including service to our country during World War II in Europe.  He was commended for a crash landing he maneuvered in a field in France that preserved one of the much needed airplanes for the war effort.  After his service, he attended Ripon College in Wisconsin and Northwestern University.
He began a long career in the Insurance industry after college; beginning as a trainee with Bartholomay and Clarkson in Chicago and ending as a member of the Board of Directors of Alexander and Alexander, Inc. in New York City.  He retired in the late 1970's and spent most of his time in Stuart, FL - playing golf and enjoying retirement.
George was the epitome of an "old-fashioned" gentleman and a protective and caring father.  His wonderful sense of humor was a great asset and everyone took to him as a friend, business associate, acquaintance, supplier, or caregiver.  He was a terrific provider, protector, advisor and confidante to his children and anyone else who needed help.  His tireless caregiving to Frances and Loretta as they dealt with grave illness is testament to his character and personality.  The list of people he considered friends, and who considered him a friend, is truly endless.
Growing up he and his family would vacation in Western Michigan where he learned to play golf starting at age three.  He loved and enjoyed playing golf well into his late 80's.  He shot his age several times and had two of his five holes-in-one at the age of 87.  His love of golf was enormous, despite what could best be described as a "very unique" swing. It had a very long "backswing" but no "follow through" with the clubhead winding up stuck in the ground at impact.  However, it was very effective and provided him with great satisfaction, winning countless trophies and awards.
In Chicago, he was a member of the Chicago Athletic Association.  Before retiring, he and "Frankie" were members of Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich, CT.  Upon retirement, they moved to Mariner Sands Country Club, in Stuart FL.
As his golf game faded, he took up horseshoes, croquet, and bridge with Nancy.  In addition, he volunteered considerable time to help The St. Vincent DePaul Society in Stuart.
He was a long time, devoted parishioner at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Palm City.  May God give him eternal rest now; no one deserves it more than he does.  He gave and gave throughout his life to family, friends, charities, churches, and his generosity knew no bounds.
A private Catholic Mass will be said in his name and, due to COVID restrictions, there will not be a memorial service at this time.  The family will have a "Celebration of his Life" at the appropriate time in the future.  Any form of consolation you might wish to extend to the family would best take the form of a contribution to Treasure Coast Hospice ( https://www.treasurehealth. org ) the people that so lovingly helped his family guide him on his final journey.
