Obituary of George Deitz
Dr. George Washington Deitz III, 90, of Palm City, Florida, died January 3, 2011 at his home.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he had been a resident of Palm City for 6 years coming from Boca Raton. He came to Florida from Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.
Before retiring he was medical doctor in private practice in Philadelphia and Huntington Valley specializing in cardiology. He received his under graduated degree from Villanova University and his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College. He also had advanced medical training at the University of Pennsylvania. He was director of Cardiac Care at Jeanes Hospital, Fox Chase, Philadelphia and was a Fellow in Cardiology at Philadelphia General Hospital. He was an instructor in cardiology and Assistant on Department of Medicine - Division of Cardiology at the Graduate School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He was also Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA. He was a member of the American Medical Association and County Society, the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians and the Philadelphia College of Physicians. He was published author in the field of cardiology and phonocardiology, a pilot for over 40 years and also faceted gemstones as a hobby.
Survivors include sons, George W. Deitz IV of Houston, Texas and John C. Deitz of Holland, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Elizabeth Deitz Smith of Austin, Texas; a sister, Bianca Causin; a brother Jack Deitz; six grandchildren, John-Paul Deitz, Matthew Deitz, James Deitz, Katie McLean-Smith, Tosha Deitz and Krista Deitz and five great grandchildren, Ciarrah Jordan Fernandez, Soshona Leigh Fernandez, Jaden Michayla Fernandez, Seth Joshua Fernandez and Kolette Deitz..
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth A. "Billie" Deitz in 2005.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at Sandhill Cove, Palm City, at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Forest Hills Funeral Homes Palm City Chapel.
