Obituary of George Mamangakis
Reverend George J. Mamangakis, 81, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at his residence in Palm City.
He was born in New York, NY on November 30, 1926. He was the son of John Mamangakis and Athena Kafatos Mamangakis.
He was raised in New York City and attended Stuyvesant High School.
He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after which he attended Halki Theological Seminary in Constantinople, now Istanbul, Turkey.
Upon return to the United States he married Stella Kouzoucas and was ordained to the priesthood and assigned to the parish of Saint Demetrios in Astoria, NY. Subsequently, he was assigned to Saints Constantine and Helen Church in Orange, NJ where he served for 27 years. His last parish assignment was St Nicholas Church in Fort Pierce, FL from which he retired in 1990.
Fr George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Stella of Palm City; he is the father of John Mamangakis of Rye, NY, Georgia Mamangakis of Williamsburg, VA, Steven Mamangakis of Stuart, and Harriet Martinez of Palm City; the grandfather of 8; and was the brother of Mary Harbatis of Nashville, TN.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Emerald Christakis.

Services will be 9 AM, on Monday, March 17, 2008 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
