We lost a compassionate and generous man on March 27, 2022 with the passing of George Mey of Palm City, FL. George passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80 in the care of his wife of 32 years, Gail. He is also survived by his proud and faithful sons Steven (Karen), Paul (Joanne) and Michael. His daughter Theresa (Gary) pre-deceased him. He is also survived by his sister Kris Veverka, and his 7 wonderful grandchildren and 5 adoring great grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and a nephew; grandnephews/nieces.

George was born in Manhattan, NY, living most of his youth in Watertown, MA.

He began his career in the health care insurance industry soon after a 4 year duty in the Air
Force as a medic. He ultimately fashioned his career as an information technology leader becoming an executive at a major health insurance company.

He was an avid sailor, participating in many races in and around Boston Harbor on the Mayhem. He was a life member of the Winthrop Yacht Club (WYC) spending more than 45 years sailing out of the club. He supported for many years via his passion for sailing the WYC Jr. Sailing Program. He volunteered at the Cummings Library at their Idea Lab. He also was a Founding member of the Village Club and Preserve.

In addition George enjoyed many other pastimes: spending time with family, golf, tennis, photography, pickle ball and skiing. He loved to travel.

There will be a memorial service with gathering of family and friends at Forest Hills Funeral Home - Palm City Chapel, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, FL with visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 am followed by a memorial service starting at 11:00 am on Friday, April 8, 2022.

There will be a memorial service later this year in the Boston area.
