Obituary

Gerald John Myrter

May 24, 1943– March 12, 2025
Jensen Beach, FL – Gerald (Jerry) John Myrter, beloved father, grandfather, and U.S. Navy veteran, passed away at his home in Jensen Beach, Florida, on March 12, 2025, at the age of 81. Jerry was born on May 24, 1943, to the late Gerald and Hannah Myrter in Meadville, Pennsylvania and grew up in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. He was the second of five children – four boys and one girl.

He grew up in a time when service to one's country was a profound honor. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard a Destroyer Escort which was involved in the blockade of Cuba. His commitment and courage during this time shaped his character for the rest of his life. His time in the service instilled in him a deep sense of duty, loyalty, and honor that he carried into every aspect of his life.

After leaving the Navy, Jerry settled in Fort Pierce, Florida where he attended Divers Training Academy. He spent his years working as an underwater welder and boiler maker at nuclear power plants and retired as such. As a father, he was the cornerstone of his family—offering wisdom, guidance, and endless love and support. Jerry's presence was a source of comfort to all who knew him. His love for his children and grandchildren was immeasurable, and his legacy of kindness, generosity, and strength will live on in them.

Beyond his military service and family life, Jerry had a passion for the simple pleasures—whether it was riding his Harley, riding motocross, tinkering with sports cars, sailing, diving, lobstering or fishing off the coast of Florida, and most importantly spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his warm heart, his gentle spirit, and his unwavering support for those he loved.

Jerry was survived by his children, Shawn Myrter and wife Marianna, Scott Myrter and wife Heather, his three grandchildren, Jackson, Ashlyn, and Camden Myrter, his sister Mary Jane Hammil, his brothers Ed and Denny Myrter and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. He was predeceased in death by his brother Thomas Myrter.

A memorial service will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home in Palm City on May 17th at 9:30. The family kindly requests that donations in his honor be made to DDS4VETS or Dogs For Life, both organizations provide service dogs for Veterans, a cause close to Jerry's heart.

Jerry was a man who lived with purpose, and his presence will be profoundly missed and carried by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
