Obituary of Gerard Achtellik
Gerard Julian Achtellik, 91, of Palm City, FL, died March 14, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice, Hay-Madeira House, Stuart, FL. Born in Hicksville, NY, he was a resident of Palm City for 25 years coming from Wellesley, Massachusetts, but spent recent summers in Winston-Salem, NC. He did his undergraduate and engineering studies at Hofstra University and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Christina Achtellik in 2002. Survivors include his daughter, Deirdre Herrington, MD and son-in-law David Herrington, MD of Winston Salem, NC, grandson Daniel Herrington of Raleigh, NC, granddaughter Kristen Herrington of Boulder, CO and his beloved dog Simon. He worked as an electrical engineer and started his own company, TGM Detectors, in 1972. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Palm City where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 17. He will remember for his unassuming gentle manner, quick wit and intellect. He received compassionate care at Arbor Acres Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC, martin Memorial Hospital North and at Hay-Madeira Hospice House in Stuart, FL for which his family is very grateful.
