Obituary of Harold R. Hoss
Hastings, N.Y. native Harold (Harry) R. Hoss died December 26, 2018 at age 91. He was a resident of Sandhill Cove, an assisted living community in Palm City, Florida at the time of his death. He is survived by his two loving children, a daughter Bonnie J. Cassin and her husband Tom of Horsham, PA, a son Richard W. Hoss of Stuart, Florida, a Granddaughter Karen and a Grandson A.J., a niece and four nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of more than 50 years Mary Elizabeth Hoss, a sister Kathryn E. Cudney and four brothers, Milton, Neil, William and Donald.
A navy veteran, he served at the end of WWII and as a naval officer during the Korean War. He was a graduate of St. Matthews Parochial School, Hastings High School and New York University where he earned B.S. and M.B.A. degrees.
He was a finance professional and was employed by a Fortune 250 Company where he was Vice President and Treasurer for many years before retirement in 1989. He held memberships in the Tax Executives Institute, Financial Executives Institute where he served on the Board of the New Jersey Chapter and the Treasurers Club of New York. He was past chairman of the American Paper Institute Tax and Pension Committees and also served on the Executive Committee of the Forest Products Timber Committee. Mr. Hoss was also a member of the Board of the former Ramapo Bank of NJ.
He belonged to Essex Fells, NJ and Martin Downs, Florida country clubs where he was an avid golfer. During his youth he loved sports but his greatest interest was baseball. He played on high school and post high school teams where, together with his late brother Donald, pitched Hastings teams to three Hudson Valley League championships during the late 40's and early 50's.
A Funeral Mass will be held on January 11, 2019 at 10:00 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1454 SW Mapp Road, Palm City, Florida, with interment following at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 2001 SW Murphy Road, Palm City, Florida. A Funeral Mass will also be held on February 9, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Luke's Church, 2316 Fairhill Avenue, Glenside, PA.
